I have always found Astropad’s performance more or less instantaneous on my iPad Air 2, and that still stands. Then as now, the instant both apps launch, they function as a unified workspace. Everything you do on an image in one space is reflected in the other without drivers. The one-to-one mirroring is universal, so that if another app — your email, say — peeks through somewhere on-screen, you will also see it on the iPad, and that is distracting. So be sure to set up your main monitor properly, use your art app in full screen mode if possible, and hide or close extraneous apps and windows. Why would I waste my money on that crap. You have to lug a tablet and a mac, to use the freaked thing. The surface pro 2 gives me the BEST of both worlds and I love every second on this. The surface pro 2 has PhotoShop CS6 and illustrator CS6 And many other software installed that I love.

I have an iPad mini 2 with a screen size much smaller than the displays on my Mac laptop and desktop. If I set Astropad to control the entire Mac screen, the shrunken Mac user interface is hard to see and control on the iPad mini display. I can create a small Photoshop workspace (left) sized for my iPad screen, and zoom Astropad to display that area on my iPad at a more stylus-friendly magnification (right). If you leave the Mac workspace maximized but zoom Astropad to show just the part of the Mac screen where you want to draw or paint, menus and panels may end up beyond the edge of the iPad screen. Having to choose among these compromises isn’t Astropad’s fault: they’re a natural consequence of trying to handle a large screen image on a much smaller display. It’s less of a problem with a larger iPad that’s closer to the size of the Mac screen, so the bigger display of the upcoming iPad Pro should benefit Astropad.
